WORLD TIME ZONES

World time zones boundariesThere are 24 time zones in the world, each zone is 15 degrees wide on average. Each world's time zone is measured relative to Greenwich, England which has been the home of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) since 1884. It marks the starting point of every time zone in the world. Greenwich Mean Time is the average time that the earth takes to rotate from noon hour to noon hour. The world time zones' boundaries have been adjusted for the convenience of local populations so the time zones' shapes are not regular. Some countries also change their local time seasonally, this change is known as Daylight Saving Time (DST). Currently approximately 70 countries use Daylight Saving Time. Countries close to equator do not utilize Daylight Saving Time. DST changes clocks this way: forward in the spring time and backwards in the fall time. Greenwich Mean Time remains the same all year around.
